Hi, my name is Helen.

Hygge

Hygge is the Danish approach to life that focusses on having a happier and more simple life.

Hygge focuses closely on nature and the impact that nature has on our mental and physical wellbeing. By spending more time outside to watch the clouds, the movements of the trees and listen to the different types of bird song then we have a clearer mind and soul thus increasing our wellbeing.

My Experience

I live with my husband in West Reading. As a Mother and Grandmama myself, I have a wealth of experience in dealing with children, including behaviour management, toilet learning and issues relating to sleeping and diet.

I believe that childhood is a wonderful time – it is filled with so much awe, wonder and innocence, and I am totally committed to ensuring that every moment a child spends with me is explored to the full in a safe and nurturing environment.

My Setting

My setting is based upon the Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, Curiosity Approach ethos.  I am currently working towards my Curiosity Approach Accreditation.

Over the past 4 years, it has been transformed into an incredible, magical and wonderous place with an eclectic collection of educational and inspiring wooden, hand-made toys, loose parts, open ended resources and beautiful authentic real life size resources designed to encourage children’s role play and learning about the world they live in.

It is truly a calming, tranquil space with natural materials and cosy places for children to sit and look at books or engage in deep learning creating a more welcoming and curious space which I truly believe benefits every child. Curious learners shape the future.

I am also working towards becoming a Hygge in the Early Years Accredited Setting.
